Why I Love Richey Elementary

By Ryan Dawson

I am a fifth grade student at Richey elementary school in New Port Richey, FL. I love this school! The teachers and kids at Richey are so nice and respectful. I’ve made so many friends. Our school mascot is the Richey Tiger.

Our school does a lot of neat things like at the end of every week we have a celebration called Fun Friday and Fiesta Friday. Fun Friday is when we play games, have food experiences and most of all have fun! Fiesta Friday is for the kids learning Spanish. We eat chips and salsa, make different foods, learn about the Spanish culture and learn a new language. Also we have the Richey News which is a morning news show televised in every classroom and it is performed by students! We get to do all the tech stuff like camera and background and there are two student anchormen.

We have a beautiful garden at our school called the Butterfly Garden. This garden is full of colorful butterflies, flowers and trees. We can eat lunch out there and parents can eat lunch with their kids if they want. Also, we have a really nice Media Center. In that center we have tons of neat books. It is really fun checking out books, there are lots of exiting books to read. Our computer lab is great. We get to visit many fun and educational web sites. Everybody always has a grand time in there.

At Richey we have a program called AR it stands for accelerated reader. We take tests on the books we read and get points. When you meet your goal you get to go to the AR party. The AR party is a celebration and we have lots of fun. A reptile expert comes and teaches us about reptiles and sometimes the school brings in inflatable jungle gyms. It is such a fun time. We have a great Music room too with lots of instruments and we get to play them! I like playing the instruments and everybody likes playing them too.

My school is a great school, that’s why I am proud to be a Richey Tiger and why I love Richey!
