Cooking from a Recipe...
By Alice Ann Lever
I made two recipes from a cookbook called Sensational Snacks by Barbara Beery. It was easy. I have cooked before and even followed recipes. What I liked about the recipes in Sensational Snacks was that the directions were easy to follow, a lot easier than those in an adult recipe book. In the back of the book there were tips that were very convenient. Overall it was a very nice book, and the snacks were actually sensational!

I made Luau Lemonade Floats and Puff the Magic Pancake. I liked the Luau Lemonade Floats better, but the pancakes were really good.
The Luau Lemonade Floats are a quick, easy, refreshing drink. They have sorbet, and a special lemonade she teaches you to make. You would never believe this, but there is actually honey in it.
If you make the recipe, leave the sorbet sitting out on the counter for a couple of minutes so it gets soft. I recommend you use it to cool down on a hot day.
Now to Puff the Magic Pancake. This is a pancake that magically puffs up. You make them in the oven not in a skillet which is different from other pancakes.
I actually made mine in a heart shaped custard cup and they turned out really cool.
This food is great for a breakfast anytime. I like mine with powdered sugar and syrup on top, but fruit sounds good, too.
The recipe for the bagel bites looks really good, it’s like a mini bagel.
I recommend next time you see Sensational Snacks you should buy it and try the recipes for yourself.
While I Love Woodland!
I go to Woodland Elementary Charter School in Sandy Springs, GA. It is a great school. I have made a lot of friends and have memories of wonderful teachers. Below I will be talking about special days, a planetarium, and the different kinds of students.
We have two days at the end of each month that we call Early Release Day and Brain Power Day. Early Release Day is when we get out at 11:30. It’s great because it’s only a half day of school. The best part is that we get to eat lunch in the classroom and watch half of a movie. Brain Power Day is where we stay with our homeroom all day and we do fun activities. Usually they have contests in them. One time we made a tower out of a cup, dry noodles, and marsh-
mallows and saw which one was the tallest. One time we had to spot the mistake in a sentence. For example, “The apples grow in an orchid.” Orchid should be replaced with orchard. These days give school some fun to school.
Every Monday we go to the Science Lab. Whenever we have a space unit, at least one time a year, we get to go in Woodland’s Planetarium. It’s a blow-up bubble that 28 people can sit in that has cylinders that make the ceiling of the planetarium look like the night sky. I’m lucky because I’ve been in the planetarium about 6 or 7 times. I’ve seen many different versions of the night sky. My favorite was seeing the Greeks’ constellations and hearing the stories of how they came to be. I also liked the Native Americans’ versions of constellations. I love the Planetarium!
We have many different cultures at Woodland. People come to Woodland from all over the world. We have people from Brazil, India, England, plus more. They have a special class called ESOL where they learn English. Not only do we have people from different countries also we have special needs students. They are very nice. We have a little celebration for them called Mistletoe and Merriment. I was a part of this last year. It is where the special needs students have partners and dance with them to Christmas, Hanukah, and Kwanza songs. It is very cute and fun.
That is why I love Wood land!
